Carbon Negative Window Films |
|
We're very excited to announce our Panorama and Solar Gard solar control window films are carbon negative.
Because it's such a complex topic, Christophe of Bekaert Specialty Films took some time to answer a few key questions on the news.
Q: What does "carbon negative" mean and why does it matter?
CF: Carbon negative means that the carbon emissions avoided by using the product are greater than the carbon emissions created during the manufacturing and disposal process.
Q: Why did we measure the carbon impact of our window films?
CF: Our motive was simple: environmental responsibility is a core value. We strive to do all we can to create a better environment. Consumers have a right to know the real environmental impact of the products they purchase. We wanted to be 100% positive about the message we were sending – that Solar Gard® and Panorama® window films save energy. Now we can be confident in sharing that message with our customers.
-
BSF is the first window film manufacturer to measure and report the carbon impact of its products. And Solar Gard and Panorama window films are the first building improvement products made in the U.S. with a Climate Declaration, showing their full carbon impact.
-
Solar Gard solar control window film installed between 2007 and 2008 alone saved 3.6 million tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. That's equivalent to the carbon output of 16,350 American families (a family of 4)
-
Solar Gard window film saves 1001 times more greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere than is used and/or created during its manufacture
-
Solar Gard's impact on the reduction of global carbon emissions is enormous because heating and cooling systems in buildings produce significant levels of greenhouse gas emissions
